The Beehive got the project of making Tessellated wall (for lopez design), for Mercer in Greater Noida.
The idea was to make a 3D pyramid based tessellation, for a 28 feet wall. Every pyramid was to be different from the other one. All the pyramids were to assymetrically tessellate on the wall.
We decided to carve the pyramid forms in wood. However, it turned out to be difficult. Then we decided to paste wood veneer on plywood. Two sets of drawing were made, base drawing and pyramid drawing which could match perfectly with the base shape.
Design was made in parts, so the entire wall could be assembled on the site. Here, the accuracy had to be very high.
Also the adhesives had to be strong, so the pyramids don’t start falling off. We figured out a new way of applying the adhesives. The pyramids were kept hollow to avoid wastage of material.
At the site, we faced a few challenges like the wall was not straight, so a few more adjustments had to be made.
